Mind controlled robotic arms
Jul 26, 2018
Dr. Albert Chi helped develop of one of the most remarkable medical technologies of our time: the world’s first mind-controlled robotic arm. More than a prosthetic, it is a complete replacement engineering solution for the missing arm. Pushing the boundaries of body and mind, this advanced technology has the potential to help not only amputees and combat veterans, but also paraplegics, stroke victims and others whose mobility has been limited by injury or disease. |

Medical Advocacy
Aug 02, 2018 12:00 PM
As registered nurses with a background in surgical nursing, we saw that people didn't really understand what their conditions were and couldn't articulate what procedures they were having done--right up to their actual surgeries. This and the fact that navigating our healthcare system is very confusing. Did you know that there are 12 million misdiagnosis every year and that the third leading cause of preventable death, in this country, is related to medical error? We want to change this!
We assist individuals and families successfully navigate the healthcare system. We offer peace of mind during oftentimes stressful circumstances because we know the medical system. We know how to ask the right questions of healthcare providers and we know that if you understand what is happening, you will make the best decisions for your health. We save you time by helping you coordinate your care in the most efficient manner possible and we save you money that you might otherwise have spent trying to navigate our complex medical system. We attend doctor’s appointments, stay at your side while in the hospital, or travel the continuum of care if you are having a surgery.
Combined we have more than 40 years of experience as operating room nurses, our passion is advocating for patients. In our experience in the operating room, successful surgery is always a result of a collaborative team approach and we believe this ins one of the most critical factors inhaling people achieve the best results when it comes to their health. We are passionate about teamwork. Connected Care was built on this concept of teamwork, which is why we are a group practice not just solo RN patient advocates. We collaborate with our clients as a team because two, three, or four heads are better than one. We have each come to be an RN patient advocate through different personal experiences and the need we saw for the patients to have someone in their corner, to be their safety net, while navigating their healthcare.

My Journey Down the Road of "Brain Disease"
Aug 09, 2018 12:00 PM
We'll be in the Memorial Coliseum, Weyerhaeuser Room this week. Over the last five years, I have learned a lot about this cruel disease, and I enjoy sharing my experience with others in hopes that it will help them cope with such challenges if they should ever arise. There is information and videos on two websites which I strongly recommend. The first is Teepa Snow videos:http://teepasnow.com/resources/teepa-tips-videos/
The other is Oregon Care Partners: https://oregoncarepartners.com/classes/

The Terroir of the Willamette Valley: The Relationship Between Geology, Soil, Climate and Wine
Aug 30, 2018 12:00 PM
Terroir is a French term that is over 400 years old and was used to describe why wines of one area tasted different from wines of another area, even though they were the same variety. It is the “taste of the place”. It is determined by the geology, soil, climate and soil biota. One of the greatest places in the world to taste differences in terroir is the Willamette Valley (wine region of the year for the whole world for 2017 – Wine Enthusiast). The valley grows primarily cool climate grapes like pinot noir, pinot gris, chardonnay, riesling, Muller-Thurgau, and gewurtztraminer. Terroir is best expressed in cool climate grapes like the thin skinned red grape, pinot noir. There are four main geological units, three of which are the main wine producing soils: volcanic soils (Columbia River Basalts and the Jory Soil), marine sediments (sandstones and shales and the Willakenzie Soil), volcanic soils with old silt mixed in (Laurelwood Soil) and the lesser used Missoula Flood deposits (Woodburn Soil). The same winemaker can produce three different wines in the same year with similar clones if different soils are used. Learn how to be an educated wine taster in Oregon by attending this talk. |

Meeting in the Weyerhaeuser Room - A Pakistan 3rd Culture Perspective
Oct 11, 2018
We read much of the news and interpret history through a lens of where we are “from”. What would that view be if a white privileged American-born person was from Pakistan? A third culture perspective relates to this insider-outsider experience. One advantage is some measure of comfort traveling to fascinating parts of the world that appear unsafe to westerners. Another is the sense of being a global citizen and how this often sharpens an admiration for the American while simultaneously allowing critical self-reflection |
